Textbook: Complex Analysis, 3rd ed., by Lars V. Ahlfors, McGraw-Hill
Book Company
We shall rigorously cover Chapters 5 to 7 of
Ahlfors, ending with the Little and Great Theorems of Picard via the
modular function approach. Weekly
homework (40%) will be handed out. There will
be one in-class midterm (30%) and one in-class final (30%).
Complex analysis is one of the
foundation courses in graduate level mathematics curriculum. Its
depth and beauty for its own sake and its
powerful intertwining nature with different areas of mathematics, have
made learning the subject one
of
the most enjoyable experiences for many mathematicians. We shall pay
particular attention to its interplay with geometry.
Emphasis is paid to doing
homework, which is an important part of understanding mathematics.
