2. Grading Information

There will be four  exams during the semester, E1 , E2 , E3 .and  a final , F  .
.

GRADES  :   Each of the  four  Exams  will count  20%  toward the final course grade  .  Similarly the grade of  the  WeBWorK  will  be   20% .

The lowest of the first 3  exam score will be replaced by the Final exam score   if  the Final exam score  is  larger than  it .

Your   letter grade     for the course  will     not be lower     than it would be if it were based  on  the scale appearing in the following table .

Numerical Range

Letter Grade

    90     to   100

A

   80    to    89.99

B

   65   to    79.99

C

    50  to     64.99

D

       Below   50

F   or  NC

Missed Exams  :   If you are  unable to take one of   Exams  E1-E3 for legitimate reasons ( such as verified illness or serious family emergency )  you  will not be given   a  make-up   exam .  You first need to explain to me why you missed the exam and if everything is in  order you will get an   excused absence .  Your grade for the missed exam will be calculated by a   statistical proceedure which uses your scores on the other taken exams, including the Final  .  If the only exam you miss is the Final Exam , and for that receive an excused absence , then you  must take a  make-up  Final exam at the begining of the   Fall semester  2012  .

Policy  for  taking exams :

A standard-sized  3x5  index card will be permitted as a "cheat sheet" on the exams.  You will also be given a copy of the page with Trigonometry Formulas that appears in the back of your book.

Graphing calculators and programmable calculators are not permitted for this course.

The following series of calculators are acceptable:

Casio FX-250, Casio FX-260, FX-270, Casio FX-300
Sharp EL-501, Sharp EL-506, Sharp EL-520, Sharp EL-531, Sharp EL-546
TI-30, TI-34, TI-36

.

Resources  for  Help with  Math 131    :    Old Exams  and solutions are posted on the web as a study guid .  This can be found on the Math Department page, and it includes exams from the past  semesters , starting with   Spring 2000 .
