General information. The textbook for the course is Calculus & Its Applications (eleventh edition) by Goldstein et al. The plan for the semester is given in the course syllabus.
In every class period I will distribute a short daily assignment. These assignments are not graded, but you must complete 90% of them. This means you can only miss four of them. After that point your final course grade will go down one letter (A to B, B to C, C to D) for each additional missed daily assignment. The current daily assignment can be downloaded here. It is due at the beginning of the next class period.
Your grade will be determined as follows:
Homework: 15%
Quizzes: 15%
Midterm 1: 15%
Midterm 2: 15%
Midterm 3: 15%
Final Exam: 25%
The homework is to be done on-line via a system called "WebWork". It is due every Thursday at 12:00 midnight; instructions are given here. Quizzes will be given at the beginning of each discussion section. The midterms will take place from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on September 26, October 24, and November 14 (location to be announced). The final exam will take place on Friday, December 15, from 3:30 to 5:30 pm. You may bring one 3 x 5 notecard to each exam. Calculators are not allowed on exams.
