Remarks about the First Exam

Our first exam is this coming Tuesday evening, February 9th, 6:308:30 pm. The room and seating assignments will be available online that day; there is a link to that information on the course web page.

Next week, the week of the exam, there will be no quiz and no Webwork assignment.

You should bring a calculator to the exam (non-graphing, non-programmable).

You may bring a 3” X 5” index cards with hand written notes. You may use both sides of the card.

The exam will consist of twenty multiple choice questions. It will cover the material in Chapter 11. It will not cover the one variable calculus review material that was included in the first two Webwork assignments. Also, in general, the topic coverage in the Webwork assignments and the quizzes lags behind the schedule of topics covered in lecture so they are not a fully accurate reflection of what topics will be on the exam.

Exams for this course from earlier semesters are available online (again, a link is on our web page.)  I taught this course last semester and we used the same text. The first exam from the course last semester gives some indication of what kind of questions I find appropriate. However the exam schedule last semester was different and the first exam last semester also included questions on the material in the first few sections of Chapter 12. Prior to last fall we used a different text and the exams from those semesters are a less useful guide as to what to expect.
