Assignment 3; due Monday, February 16th

Section          Problems

6.3                   2, 4, 6

6.4                   8, 10, 12, 14, 20

The wording in 6.3.4 is a bit awkward. The random variable being considered is a Bernoulli random variable with P( X = 1) = p . In 6.3.6 assume a year has 12 months of equal length.

The first midterm exam is in class on Friday the 13th. The exam will cover Chapters 5 and 6. The questions will be computational, similar in spirit to the book’s examples and problems.

You may bring a 3” X 5” index card with notes, hand written, both sides. You may bring a calculator for arithmetic. However for questions such as “Find a 95% confidence interval….” it will not be sufficient to just report a calculator’s values. A table for the unit normal random variable similar to the one on pg. 851 will be provided.
