Through Each One Teach One, Washington University students work to inspire, teach, support, and enrich the lives of young people. Over 250 WashU students currently tutor at-risk K-12 students in the community one-on-one every week.
Designed by the Community Service Office at Washington University in St. Louis, Each One Teach One typically requires between a two to three hours weekly time commitment from mentors.
Three programs are available through Each One Teach One:
- Jump Start, serving grade levels K-6
- KIPP, grade levels 5-7
- College Bound, grade levels 10-12
Jump Start tutors help students complete their homework and reinforce basic math, reading, and writing skills. KIPP's mission is "to inspire all students to develop the character and academic skills necessary to succeed in high school and college. "College Bound "provides promising high school students from under-resourced backgrounds with the academic enrichment, social support and life skills needed to apply, matriculate and succeed in four-year colleges."
Each One Teach One enrollment deadlines are January 20, 2012 (5:00 pm) and April 27, 2012 (5:00 pm).
Find out how you can get involved at the Info Session on April 17, 2012 (7:00-8:00 pm, DUC center, room 233).
Training for new tutors will be provided on January 21, from 12:00-3:00 pm, at the DUC.
