Math Art: Periodic Table of the Finite Elements

Visit the Periodic Table of Finite Elements by Douglas Arnold (Minnesota),Anders Logg (Chalmers), and graphic design artist Mattias Schläger at http://femtable.org, a site developed by Harish Narayanan. A framed copy of this significant Math Art resides in WUSTL Mathematics Professor Ari Stern's office, on the upper floor of Cupples I. The table presents the primary spaces of finite elements for the discretization of the fundamental operators of vector calculus: the gradient, curl, and divergence.

The finite elements in the table are part of a collaborative project for the development of innovative concepts and tools for automated scientific computing, with a particular focus on automated solution of differential equations by finite element methods. Visit http://fenicsproject.org/ for details.
