Geometry and Topology Seminar - Billiards to Thermodynamics

Timothy Chumley, Department of Mathematics, Washington University in St. Louis

April 5, 2013 - 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm
Location: Cupples I, Room 199 | Host: Prof. Xiang Tang

Abstract: We introduce a random billiard model for a minimalistic heat engine and discuss the preliminaries for a detailed analysis of the model. A distinguishing feature of the model is an explicit Markov model of a heat bath-thermostat which is closely related to a high-dimensional deterministic billiard system.
