Restrictions on the Lengths of Golay Complementary Sequences

David Meyer, Department of Mathematics, Washington University in St. Louis

January 18, 2013 - 4:30 pm to 5:30 pm
Location: Cupples I, Room 199 | Host: Prof. Victor Wickerhauser

Abstract: In 1949, Marcel Golay presented pairs of sequences with out-of-phase autocorrelation coefficients summing to zero, which became known as Golay Complementary Sequences (GCS). In this talk, we will explain the necessary conditions for the lengths of GCS, and the constructions used to find GCS of a given length if it exists. We will also discuss the relation of GCS to open problems in analysis such as Littlewood Polynomials.
