Grading



Formula
  • Exams: If the final grade is higher than any of the first three exam scores, the lowest score will be replaced by the final score.
    the average of the four numbers so obtained is the exam grade. (The final grade cannot be replaced.)
  • Problem sets: The lowest of the six problem set scores will be dropped. The average of the five numbers left is the problem set grade.
  • Total: The final course grade = .9(exam score) + .1(problem set score)


  • Guaranteed Grade Cutoffs
    Assignment of the final letter grade will be done on a curve if appropriate,
    and is guaranteed to be no harsher than the following:
    If numeric score is Grade will be at least (possibly with + or - attached)
    90 - 100% A
    80 - 89.99% B
    65 - 79.99% C
    50 - 64.99% D
    Below 50% NCR (F)
