Using WebWork

1. First you will log in here. Your username is your student id number. Your password is initially also your student id number. Enter your username and password and press "Continue".

***General advice: Webwork sometimes responds to a command by displaying a blank page. If this happens at any time, just click the reload button on your browser.***

2. After logging in, you can change your password by clicking on "Password/Email" on the left column. Enter your new password in both "New Password" and "Confirm Password", then click "Change User Options".

3. To work on a homework set, click "Homework Sets" on the left column. Then click on the homework set you want to work on. (The first one is "set homework1", due 1/30/05 at 11:59 p.m.)

4. If you want to print out the homework problems, click on "Download a hardcopy of this problem set", then go to the bottom of the page and click on "Generate Hardcopy". (Your computer must be able to read PDF files in order for this to work. If necessary, you can download the PDF reader Adobe Acrobathere.)

5. To work on a homework problem on-line, click on the problem number. Enter your solution(s) in the box(es) and click on "Submit Answers". You can attempt each problem as many times as you like.

Hints for answering problems correctly:

--- You may need to use a calculator to compute a numerical answer.
--- Basic symbols are + (plus), - (minus), * (times), / (divided by), ^ or ** (to the power), sqrt (square root)
--- WebWork recognizes "pi" and "e" (unless the problem demands a numerical answer). Example: the area of a circle is pi*r^2 (or pi r^2, or pi*r**2, etc.).
--- Be sure to parenthesize correctly! The expressions a/b+c and a/(b+c) have different meanings: 6/2+1 = 3+1 = 4 but 6/(2+1) = 6/3 = 2.
--- If you are stuck, or to report a problem, you can click on "Email Instructor".
