You are encouraged to collaborate on homework, and to work on additional
exercises from the indicated problem sections, although the homework grade
will be based only on the exercises listed below. Please return your solutions to me by the
end of class. Late homework will not be accepted.

Read chapter 1, sections 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, of the text.

Do exercises 14 (a) of section 1.1, page 12.

Do exercises 2 (d) and 3 (d) of section 1.2, page 23.

Do exercises 1 (c), 5 (c), and 10 of section 1.3, pages 37-38.

Do algorithm 2 (b) of section 1.3, page 39. [The third edition
of the text has a misprint. The formula should be p(n) = 3/2 p(n-1) - 1/2 p(n-2). ]
