Math 449 - Homework 2
Due Friday, September 15, 2006.
-
Read chapter 2, sections 2.1, 2.2, 2.3, 2.4, of the text.
- Do exercises 3 (b) and 3 (d) of section 2.1, p. 50.
-
Do problem 1 (b) in "Algorithms and Programs" of section 2.1, p. 51.
-
Do exercise 9 of section 2.2, p. 61.
-
Do exercise 11 of section 2.2, p. 61.
-
For the function of problem 1 in "Algorithms and Programs" of section 2.3, p. 69,
find intervals around each root such that the function changes sign on each interval
and each interval contains only one root.
(Use Program 2.4 as in the example 2.10, page 68, to obtain the approximate locations
that may contain roots, then investigate the graphs more closely near those points
to determine if a root really exists there, and find the intervals.)
-
Do exercise 2 of section 2.4, p. 85.
-
Do exercise 11 of section 2.4, p. 86.
