Each of Exams 1 -3 will count 19% toward the final course grade while the
Final Exam will count 28%. The remaining 15% will reflect homework
grades. If E1, E2, E3, and F are your four exam scores and H is your
final homework score, each scaled to 30, let
T1 = .19(E1 + E2 + E3) + .28F + .15H
To give you a chance to recover from a bad showing on one exam, we will also replace your lowest midterm exam score
with your final exam score, provided that the final exam score is higher than at least one midterm score. This is
accomplished by letting
T2 = .19(E1 + E2 + E3 + F - min(E1,E2,E3,F)) + .28F + .15H
Notice that if your final exam score is lower than all three of the in-semester exams, then T2 = T1. Consequently,
T = max(T1, T2) = T2. Your letter grade for the course will be determined by the following
scale:
