HW7, Due 2/27

In this homework, as in all homeworks and exams in the course, state the definition and distribution of any random variable you use. For example, the solution to problem 4 of Exam 1 should begin, "Let X be the salary of a randomly chosen faculty member. We are given that X is normally distributed with mean $51,500 and standard deviation of $3,000 (or, in our shorthand, given that X~N(51500, 3000)".

1. (Like 5.80 on page 233). An airline deliberately overbooks on some flights because it knows some passengers who make reservations will not show up for a flight. Suppose each passenger has .90 probability of showing up for a particular flight that holds 164 passengers. What is the most reservations the airline can make and still be at least 95% certain that every person who shows up for the flight with a reservation can be accommodated with a seat on the plane?
