Math 322 - Biostatistics

Homework and Study Resources

In addition to the lectures there are several resources that can help you learn biostatistics.

Homework

There will be 12 homework assignments throughout the semester. These will count 30% of your grade. Each problem set is due on Friday at the beginning of class according to the schedule below. No late sets will be accepted. The problems will be available here at least one week before their due date.

Guidelines for homework

Make it look good! In particular: Write or print your name legibly on the first page. Staple all your sheets together with one staple in the upper left corner (no paper clips, fancy folds, etc.). No "spiral tearoffs".

In your solution, each problem will consist of up to four parts. You should always write out your answer to the problem, complete with your reasoning and method for solving it. Whenever applicable, you should also submit your R input code, your R output and graphical output. You may integrate these four parts as you like, but make sure that everything is clearly labeled and referenced.

Collaboration with your fellow students is fun and great for learning. You should do it! However, keep in mind the Academic Integrity Policy. In particular, you should NEVER copy other people's work (including fellow students, books, web pages, etc.) and try to pass it on as your own. Therefore: Everything you submit must have been written by you. If you receive help on a problem, say so.

Office hours

The office hours are times the instructor has specifically set aside to help you with the material. Take advantage of these! If none of the listed office hours work with your schedule, feel free to make an appointment for another time.

The office hours are Wednesday 4:00 - 5:00 PM, Thursday 10:30 - 11:30 AM, or by appointment.

All office hours are held in Cupples I, office 202. The office can be a little hard to find as it is off by itself on a "half-floor". If you enter Cupples I through the south-eastern entrance (from the quadrangle), you will find office 202 up the first set of stairs and to your right, before the second set of stairs.
