Topics

This course is an introduction to differential equations, mainly ordinary differential equations. The core is to get familiar with common types of first order equations and some types of second order equations.

We will see how to solve those kind of equations with several methods including series solution of second order equations with non-constant coefficients, Laplace transform methods, etc. We will also simply discuss dynamical systems and phase plane methods, Fourier series methods and partial differential equations using seperation of variables. Besides, we will do practise in applications, modeling.

Grading

There will be bi-weekly homework assignments and several mid-term exams and a final exam. Your final grade will be based on your performance on all of them.  To be in details:

Homework 30%   Mid-terms 30%  Final 40%

The final will be on the last day of class, that is July 31st at the same room, i.e. Eads 103

Since there are only eight weeks for this session, so every week, you will be expecting either a homework assiangment or an exam. I know this is not very comfortable, but, "Practice makes the master" :-)
