About the Jaime Escalante Summer Math Program
Ever seen the movie “Stand and Deliver?” It’s based on a true story about an inspiring math teacher, Jaime Escalante. During the last few summers, I’ve been fortunate to be an instructor for his summer math program for bright, low income, middle school students. I spent 6 weeks teaching 25 hyper 7th graders the prerequisites for Pre Algebra. But all I can say is, teaching middle school kids is not as easy as it seems. (1/2) Discipline + (1/2) Hardcore math work = Teaching middle school math!
