Jaime Escalante
Summer Mathematics Program

In the summer of 2007, I decided that I loved the movie “Stand and Deliver” so much that I would become a teacher in the Jaime Escalante Summer Math Program at the Accelerated School in Los Angeles. I spent 6 weeks teaching 25 hyper 7th graders the prerequisites for Pre Algebra. It was my first time teaching in a classroom, and I loved it! My kids were absolutely adorable and hilarious! It was an awesome experience, but all I can say is, teaching middle school kids is not as easy as it seems. (1/2) Discipline + (1/2) Hardcore math work = Teaching middle school math!

Text Box: Yay for my TA, Alana!
