Homework problems

 

There will be a homework assignment due every Monday by 4:45 pm. Homework must be handed in the math department office in Cupples I, Room 100. And you will find your graded homework on the top shelf of the Math 320 bin/bookcase in the hall of the first floor between Rooms 116 and 118, Cupples I. The lowest two homework grades will be dropped, so your total homework score will be based on all homework grades but two. You will receive no credits for solutions with no work or justifications. In addition, any Excel homework printouts should be formatted neatly. I reserve the right to deduct points for messy papers. Students are encouraged to discuss homework problems with others in class, but must write your homework independently. Duplicating others' homework constitutes a violation of the university academic integrity policy. When handing in homework, you must:

  • include your name (printed), course number (Math320) and section number on the first page.
  • write legibly. You are encouraged to produce printed homework.
  • staple the pages together on the upper left-hand corner to prevent pages from getting lost. Do not use paper clips.

WARNING: In occasions, the homework may not be returned before you need it, as you may want to refer to it for the next homework (or a test). You may make a copy of your homework before you hand it in.

The homework problems are listed in the following table. Besides, I also put some recommended exercises. You will find answers for odd-numbered problems in the back of the textbook, in Appendix B.

Remark: Every exam will contain some problems that are very similar to what you see in the homework and recommend exercises. If you faithfully work these problems, you should have no trouble scoring well on the examinations.
