Math 2200, Information for the April 6th—10th

·        Class will not meet April 6, 8, 10

·        The third midterm exam is Tuesday evening, April 7th. It will cover Parts V and VI of the book.

·        Those chapters cover various confidence interval constructions and hypothesis tests. A substantial fraction of the exam consists of computational questions on those themes; find the confidence interval…., do the hypothesis test and report the p value, etc. Other questions give you the computational results and ask for the conclusion; for instance, if you test the null hypothesis *** with alpha = *** and obtain a z value of *** would you conclude----and then several choices. There are also some questions aimed at the ideas. A question that was on an early draft of the exam but was removed is

If you construct a 90% confidence interval for a mean and then construct a 95% confidence interval for the same mean using the same data then the first interval is contained in the second.

A.      Always

B.     Never

C.     Possibly but not definitely.
