FEBRUARY, 2014
Professors Xiaojun Huang (Rutgers) and Steve Zelditch (Northwestern University) have been awarded the American Mathematical Society's 2013 Stefan Bergman Prize.
Upon learning the news, Xiaojun Huang, a former graduate student in Mathematics at WUSTL, thanked Gary Jensen, Quo-Shin Chi, John McCarthy, and Steven Krantz, all long-standing members of our department's geometry group. "Thank you very much for your teaching at Wash U, where I started my true mathematical career," Xiaojun Huang writes. "As a former graduate from Washington University, I am very happy to share with you the news."
Professors Xiaojun Huang and Steve Zelditch are researchers and significant contributors in geometric analysis. Xiaojun Huang obtained his Ph.D. in 1994, under the direction of Steven Krantz, with a thesis titled Several Complex Variables, CR Geometry and Complex Geometry, and has since furthered research in the field. Steve Zelditch solves asymptotics problems on Bergman kernels and metrics that arise in Kaehler geometry, Gaussian random waves and random metrics. Zelditch's work is also recognized as transformative.
