Introduction to Topology and Modern Analysis

The textbook is: TOPOLOGY - 2/ed, by James R. Munkres (Prentice Hall).

Topics. This second part of the course will mostly cover algebraic topology. The main topics are: the quotient topology; the fundamental group and covering spaces; the Jordan curve theorem; the Seifert-van Kampen theorem; classification of surfaces; We will cover, roughly, the material corresponding to chapters 9, 10, 11, 12, and 13. (Also 14 if time permits.)

Prerequisites: Math 417.

Homeworks and exams: There will be weekly homework sets, worth 30% of the final grade, one midterm exam, worth 30%, and a final exam, worth 40%. The dates are as follows:
