Course Description: The purpose of this course is

to provide an introduction to the rigors of college teaching.

One thing that I do not intend to do in this course is to tell you how to teach.

That is something that you have to figure out for yourself.

We will discuss various teaching philosophies and techniques.

We will have some sample lectures. Most of all, I hope

that we will talk to each other a lot and have some stimulating discussions.

Textbook: Steven G. Krantz Stewart, How to Teach Mathematics, 3rd edition,

American Mathematical Society, 2015.

Elements of the Course:

There will be no homework and no exams in this course. Each student will give at least

one sample lecture. I may ask you to write some short papers.
