Course Description: The purpose of this course is

to provide an introduction to the mathematics profession.

We will discuss life in a mathematics department,

the professorial ranks, tenure, and the duties of a faculty member.

We will talk about how to get tenure and how not to get tenure.

We will discuss the roles of teaching, research, and service in departmental life.

Mostly I hope that we will talk to each other a lot and have many

stimulating discussions.
